HERMITAGE

Can I cook food when I am at the hermitage or group retreat campground?2021-06-27T17:53:20+00:00

The cottage hermitage at the Corbett Center is equipped with a two-burner propane stove and a portable solar oven. You will be oriented to the use of the solar oven when you arrive and can use it to heat water or canned soup or vegetables, as well as to cook beans, lentils, rice, potatoes, and vegetables. Cooking pasta works better on the propane stove.

The group retreat campground at the Corbett Center is also equipped with a two-burner propane stove.

As there is no refrigeration, we recommend bringing canned or dried foods. Also, there is limited water, so simple meals with easy cleanup are best.

Is there heating or cooling at the Corbett Center hermitage?2021-06-27T16:12:13+00:00

There is a mini wood stove at the Corbett Center hermitage to heat the inside of the cottage, and a chiminea outside. There are also two hot water bottles provided to keep the bed warm at night. Nighttime temperatures can be below freezing many nights between November and February.

There is no cooling at the Corbett Center hermitage, and the inside temperature of the building is about the same as the outside temperature. The temperature can be in the 90’s to above 100 during the day June through September. Temperatures in June, July, and August can sometimes be above 110.

Is propane provided?2021-06-27T16:13:24+00:00

Yes, propane is provided for both Coleman stoves at the Corbett Center–one at the hermitage and one at the group retreat camping area.
